At Rock City Coffee, our mission is to provide you our best coffee, food and service at your home away from home.

History:

Founded in 1992, Rock City Coffee (formerly Second Read Books & Coffee) has provided the Midcoast with excellent coffee, tea, and food (as well as books until 2011). In 1999, we opened Rock City Coffee Roasters to offer the finest quality, freshest-roasted coffee possible. We have been a major force in the renaissance of Rockland, and we have been proud to help it grow into a leading art center and travel destination, as well as a better place to live and work. Our goal in our stores is to help develop and enhance the quality of life in Rockland and the surrounding community through our support of humanitarian causes, arts and education, and the environment. In addition to making individual contributions to the development of community, we provide comfortable meeting places that emphasize quality and foster conversation, creativity, and learning. Our goal is to make our customers feel special and valuable in a less-than-perfect world where people are increasingly disenfranchised and isolated from their communities.

Mission:

To provide our best coffee, food, and service to our customers.

Vision:

As a worker-owned cooperative, our goal is to provide quality products and service, as well as a communal sense of togetherness and social connection, to help develop and enhance the quality of life in the surrounding community while treating our co-owners and employees fairly and ethically, acknowledging and respecting them as individuals and sharing our business successes with them.

Guiding principles:

Provide comfortable meeting places that emphasize quality and foster community, conversation, creativity, and learning.

Help customers feel special and valuable in a less-than-perfect world where people are increasingly disenfranchised and isolated from their communities

Protect and maintain the dignity and agency of our employees

Hold no bias regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, or political affiliation

Support humanitarian causes, arts and education, and the environment whenever possible.
